Mike is a founding partner of Ad Valorem Specialists. His background includes Commercial Real Estate and Land Development. Mike also holds a Texas Real Estate Broker License.
Mike graduated from Schreiner University with a Bachelor of Arts Business Administration degree in 2001. He went on to work with Brinkman Commercial Properties in Kerrville, Texas. Shortly after, he moved his main focus from real estate to land development and created Newgate Development Company, which specializes in the rural development of the Texas Hill Country.
Mike is happily married with two children. Along with spending time with his family, he enjoys playing golf, hunting, and fishing.

Mike Hicks began as a fee appraiser with John Box & Assoc. in the late 80’s. In addition, he has an abundance of experience within the Texas appraisal district system. Just prior to leaving the appraisal district side of the Texas property tax system, Mike was the Assistant Chief Appraiser in Wilson County.
Duties as an Appraisal District Appraiser and Assistant Chief Appraiser included preparing schedules for all real and personal property valuations, conducting the ARB board room, district budget preparations and attending the Board Of Directors’ hearing meeting with the ublic on Value Issues as well as all aspects of commercial appraisals.
Prior to joining with Ad Valorem Specialists, Mike was employed as a Senior Property Tax Consultant with Adams & Polunsky. His experience as a property tax consultant include all aspects of consulting, from raw land to income producing property, agricultural land, commercial and raw land, and special use code properties. Mike has a broad knowledge of all aspects of property tax consulting in the State of Texas with 18 years of experience. He is a native from Uvalde Texas, attended Angelo State University and now resides between Comfort and Fredericksburg, Texas.
